Summary: In this dissertation, besides a brief review on soliton type solutions in (1+1) dimensional field theories, we will provide a detailed study of solitons scattering for sine-Gordon, φ4 and φ6 models making use of collective coordinates. We propose some considerations that aim to explain effects which arise during the scattering and, despite the intense activity in this area in order to explain these effects, had not yet been taken into consideration.
